The Real Reason We Need to Create Content
Three years ago, I began creating content on the internet. Every morning I would post a story on my Instagram, “good morning everyone! *insert something inspirational. I hope you all have a wonderful day!”
I had no idea where it would lead me, but three years later, I am writing on Medium to share ideas with the world. It’s incredible to me that people halfway across the world can read this. Truly remarkable.
But it hasn’t always been remarkable. There have been countless times when I wonder why I am even creating content? Is anyone reading this? Am I making a difference?
My ego is too concerned with the number of followers and likes.
Social media began as an opportunity for humans to connect with friends, old and new. So as creators, why do we feel immense pressure to judge ourselves by the number of follows and likes we get?
Should we not be concerned with the few humans we connect with. Is impacting one person with our content not enough? It’s an opportunity to share ideas and thoughts in a living room with people globally. *Podcast interview with a friend I met on Twitter, Rob Ryan said.
What if, as creators, we were in it for human connection? To engage in the comments and messages about ideas we believe will make the world a better place.
Share Your Values
Social media platforms are an opportunity to share your values. How you communicate with the world what your passions are, says as much about you as your passions.
Last week I met with a human who shares similar values to me. He had an opportunity to look at my LinkedIn page and is giving me a chance to collaborate with him on a project he’s on.
But, I don’t even create content specifically about the project. But’s it the way I create content, interact with others, and go about my business that inspires us to work together.
Your content and how you create it send a smoke signal to the world what you care about. It then attracts those who share similar values to you as well.
What values and signals are you sending out to the digital universe?
