The Ego in the Way of Impact

It’s easy to let our guard down and the ego in. The ego will tell you how great you are, how successful you’ll be, and that you will most certainly receive recognition for your hard work.

Maybe. Or is it your ego creating an illusionary self-image to bask in your success?

Watch out for the ego. As the great author, Ryan Holiday says, “keeping your ego in check is like sweeping the floors.” If you forget to do it, the mind becomes a mess.

Beware of the Ego

Your ego will tell you that you can do anything. But truthfully, we all have our unique strengths and weaknesses. Some of us are excellent at spreadsheets, and some of us thrive in public speaking.

Caution: Your ego may take you down a path where your strengths and passions don’t align.

I know this because I am battling the ego right now.

Right Under My Nose

During my early college years, I felt a calling to work with youth. My mission was to be a positive mentor like the many I had while growing up. Since 2017, I have been working with youth in sports and education.

But, for the past few years, my ego has been taking me down the road of “let’s be an entrepreneur and become famous like Steve Jobs.”

In reality, my calling of how I believe the universe wants me to impact the world is through education, youth sports, and human development.

Why have I been refusing to accept this mission?

My ego is in the way. It sees this career path and wonders how in the world will becoming an educator make me famous?

It probably won’t, and that’s okay.

Making an impact isn’t about the world knowing about it. It’s about enriching the lives of the people we come across with.
