How to Live With an And Attitude

We live in an all-or-nothing society. Keyword: OR.

Think about diet culture and the self-improvement communities. I’ve found myself right in the mix of both. Pizza and a beer for dinner? HELL NO! Way too many calories and no nutrition, man.

I’ve been learning the key to living a good life is with the word AND.

Why And?

We can be high-performing leaders during the day and watch Netflix in the evenings or, dare I say it, during the day! We can be in tip-top shape and eat pizza while occasionally drinking a beer.

We can be incredibly kind person with great emotional intelligence and flip a gasket every once in a while. Sorry, we are human.

Around four years ago, I was chugging beers and being a typical American college student. Then, after reading a few books and getting into motivation, I began to cut back on my drinking.

While it was a healthy choice to cut back from binge drinking, I began hanging out with my friends less to “hustle more.”

I found myself nose deep into the self-improvement community feeding me information on the importance of constantly GRINDING and becoming a better you!

Now Now

I am still a huge advocate for being a voracious learner, taking care of our well-being, and striving to become better humans every day.

However, it’s also imperative to connect with our loved ones live a little by experiencing the beauty and pleasures of life like pizza and a beer.

I am still unlearning I don’t have to have a perfect diet, work non-stop every day, and always remain stoic to impact the world.

The Great Unlearn

When we start to feel guilty over our decision, we need to ask ourselves why? Last weekend this exact scenario I am sharing with you played out. My perfectionist anxiety was sounding off while eating pizza and drinking a beer. “Oh no, I’m not going to be at the top of my game tomorrow.”

Guess what? Maybe I wasn’t in top shape, but I still had a productive Sunday playing basketball with pizza in my belly.

We have to let go of being perfect in our pursuit of becoming better humans. Part of becoming a better version of ourselves is letting loose, having fun, and experiencing the pleasures of life.

We can become incredibly impactful human beings and enjoy pizza and a beer.

How are you going to live with an AND attitude?
